Mardi Gras falls on Tuesday, February 25th this year.  Traditionally, the days leading up to Lent, people would binge on rich/fatty foods in anticipation of fasting or limiting intake of certain foods.  Mardi Gras translates to Fat Tuesday and is celebrate the day before Ash Wednesday, making it quite the celebration! New Orleans is famous for its Mardi Gras parties.  I’ve been to New Orleans and enjoyed some awesome food but have never participated in the Mardi Gras festivities…maybe someday I’ll get back!  I want to celebrate Mardi Gras this year with a delicious feast.  I’m thinking traditional New Orleans foods with a little twist!  I’ll be making Muffuletta Dip and Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Food is an important part of celebrations throughout the world, regardless of culture. The next several days have many celebrations so we’ve been sorting through recipes to share with you that you and your family might prepare together to recognize these traditional festivities. The Chinese New Year begins on February 10 – The Year of the Snake. Kung Pao Chicken with Noodles is one of our favorite chicken recipes and seems perfect for a Sunday meal with your family. The peppers create some lovely heat and the crunch of the peanuts really makes the dish.   With Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans we thought a Muffuletta Sandwich might be on your menu. This recipe for Muffuletta sandwich with Olive salad is a hearty sandwich with lots of tradition, our recipe is for individual Mufulletta sandwiches but if you wish you can use a round loaf of bread and make one large sandwich and cut into servings. If you’re short of time we have The Griller, our 48 ounce sandwich and a winner with every crowd.
