Most Minnesotans are familiar with kabobs because we love to grill when the weather is warm.    However, if you aren’t familiar with kabobs you are in for a treat!  Kabobs are basically cubes of meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and other foods placed on a skewer and grilled to perfection.  And with the MN State Fair recently ending all I can think of is food on a stick so blogging about kabobs seemed like the perfect fit! I have 4 different kabobs to share with you today. Chicken Breast Kabobs (available from the meat counter) Black Angus Beef Sirloin Kabobs (available from the meat counter) Salmon Kabobs with Rainbow Veggies Ham and Pineapple Kabobs   The Chicken Breast Kabobs and Black Angus Beef Sirloin Kabobs are available from the meat counter at your local Festival Foods.  The veggies are fresh, including green pepper, red pepper, and red onion, and the meat is thick cut.  Each skewer … Continue reading

I have a secret to share. Andrew and I both love fish but have never made it at home before. Can you believe it? Well, we were feeling ambitious last night and decided to try making grilled salmon. Turns out it was super simple to make! A friend recommended we use a grilling plank because it gives the fish great flavor so we bought Fire & Flavor Cedar Wood Grilling Planks. You can find these by the meat counter at Festival Foods. They are sold in a pack of 2 and you can use each one about 2-3 times before throwing away so you get a few meals out of them. They are perfect for cooking beef, pork, chicken, salmon, and other seafood so you aren’t limited to any one item. The tricky part is planning ahead. You need to soak the plank in water for about 1-2 hours before … Continue reading

We have some beautiful salmon filets in our store this week and a recipe that is sure to please is Bacon Wrapped Salmon. This recipe uses Tom Douglas Rub with Love – Salmon rub as well as a Savu smoker bag. The salmon rub is brown sugar based  and this rub flavors “the best salmon in Seattle” at Etta’s restaurant, according to Northwest Palate Magazine. If you love easy clean up with the bonus of great taste you will love the Savu smoker bag. Our weekly menu also has another salmon recipe for Maple Glazed Salmon, another delicious option!
