Ingredients:
For the Braised Beer Onions:
Fresh cracked black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 large sweet yellow onions, cut in half and thinly sliced
Seasoned salt
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1 can beer or non-alcoholic beer, (12 oz.)
For the burgers:
2 lb. lean ground beef
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 packet dry onion soup mix
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Montreal Steak Seasoning, plus more for sprinkling on burgers
6 slices American or Sharp cheddar cheese, for topping
6 slices Smoked Cheddar cheese, for topping
6 butter-toasted Buns, (bakery Onion Cheddar Buns work well)
Bolthouse Farms Caramelized Sweet Onion Yogurt Dressing, for topping
French fried onions, for topping
Directions:
For the Braised Beer Onions: Preheat large skillet over medium-high heat; add butter and onions and sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt and pepper. Sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add brown sugar and beer and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cook until reduced and caramelized, about 15 minutes.
For the burgers: Meanwhile, preheat grill to medium-high heat. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, shredded sharp cheddar, onion soup mix, Worcestershire, and 1 teaspoon Montreal steak seasoning. Shape into 6 equal-size burger patties, sprinkle tops lightly with more Montreal Steak seasoning and grill about 5 minutes on each side. Top each burger with one slice each cheddar and American cheeses the last minute of grilling time. Place burgers on butter-toasted buns, top with beer braised onions, Caramelized Sweet Onion Yogurt Dressing, and French fried onions.
