Authentic German Sauerbraten





Serves 8
Ingredients:
| 3 lb. Chuck roast |
| 1/2 cup vinegar |
| 1/2 tablespoon salt |
| Freshly ground pepper |
| 6 cloves garlic |
| 1/2 cup raisins |
| 1/2 cup sugar |
| 1 cup water, plus 2 tablespoons |
| 2 tablespoons cornstarch |
Directions:
- Slice large onion in bowl. Add and mix together 1/2 cup vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon salt, pepper, and whole cloves. Place roast in large sealable plastic bag and pour marinade over top.
- Refrigerate for 24 hours or up to 3 days, turning a couple times per day. Transfer meat and vinegar mixture to crock pot. Add raisins, sugar, and 1 cup water.
- Cook in slow cooker on low for 8 to 10 hours.
- To serve, remove meat and thicken gravy with 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water. Serve over potatoes or noodles.
