Bacon Cheeseburger Skillet

|2 lb. lean ground beef|
|1 large onion, finely diced|
|2 cloves garlic, minced|
|8 oz sliced fresh mushrooms, optional|
|1 envelope dry onion soup mix|
|2 packages dry macaroni and cheese mix, divided use|
|1 can cream of mushroom soup|
|2 Cups milk|
|1 jar Cheez Whiz, (15 oz.)|
|1 teaspoon dry mustard|
|1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper|
|1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce|
|2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided use|
|8 strips cooked bacon, crumbled|
|Fresh ground pepper|
|Real Bacon Bits, for garnish, optional|
|Sliced green onions, for garnish|
- Brown ground beef, onion, mushrooms, if using, and garlic over medium high heat; sprinkle with dry onion soup mix; stir and cook 5 minutes more. Meanwhile, prepare macaroni from macaroni and cheese dry mix according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- Add 1 dry cheese packet (save the other one for another use) from mac and cheese mix, cream of mushroom soup, milk, Cheez Whiz, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Stir in reserved cooked macaroni, 1 cup of the shredded cheddar, and crumbled bacon; season to taste with seasoned salt and pepper. Sprinkle top with remaining shredded cheddar and garnish with sliced green onions and bacon bits, if using.
