Hot Chocolate Bombs

Ingredients:

8 oz Vanilla Flavored Almond Bark or White Chocolate
Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa Mix
Miniature Marshmallows
Red Decorating Icing
Black Decorating Icing
Orange Sprinkles (for the nose)
Large Round Sprinkles (for earmuffs)

Directions:

  1. Add the chocolate to a saucepan and heat over medium-low heat. Melt the chocolate completely, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat.
  2. Place the molds on a baking sheet. Set aside.
  3. Use your silicone brush to brush the melted chocolate inside each dome or cavity in the mold. Make sure to evenly coat the mold. It’s OK if you are able to see through the chocolate a bit because you will be adding an additional layer. You will only use about ½ the chocolate for this step.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate to completely harden.
  5. Remove the baking sheet from the fridge. Heat the remaining chocolate over medium-low heat to re-melt it. Once melted, brush a second layer of chocolate evenly inside each dome or cavity in the mold. You can be quite liberal if needed, to ensure the molds are fully coated. You also don’t need to worry if the molds don’t look very smooth on the inside - you won’t see this part when the hot cocoa bombs are assembled, and the outside will be nice and smooth.
  6. Place the baking sheet in the fridge for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate to completely harden.
  7. Once ready, gently remove the chocolate domes from the molds.
  8. Add a spoonful of hot cocoa mix to one half of the chocolate domes. Add miniature marshmallows on top of the hot cocoa mix.
  9. Heat a small skillet over low heat. Take one of the empty dome halves and place on the hot skillet. This will melt the chocolate slightly. Do not leave the chocolate on the skillet for more than a few seconds. Gently place on top of one of the chocolate domes filled with hot cocoa mix / marshmallows. The melted chocolate should hold the 2 halves together. Set aside and repeat until you have assembled all your hot chocolate bombs. Let sit for about 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to completely harden.
  10. Add a small amount of red frosting to one side of the hot chocolate bomb. Then, frost a line around the top of the bomb and add a small amount of frosting to the other side. This creates the earmuff look.
  11. Add a large round sprinkle to each side of the bomb - this finished the earmuff look.
  12. Add 2 eyes and a charcoal mouth with the black frosting. Add a tiny amount of frosting to the center and place the orange sprinkle on top. This will hold the “carrot” nose in place.
  13. Repeat until all hot chocolate bombs have been decorated. Set aside for about 10-15 minutes to allow the frosting to harden.
  14. Store until ready to use or enjoy immediately in a mug of warm milk / water! Simple heat the milk or water. Once hot, place one hot chocolate bomb directly into the mug. Wait a few seconds and the hot chocolate bomb should start to melt and open. Stir to dissolve the hot chocolate powder. Enjoy!
  15. ***These are completely customizable. Use almond bark or candy melts. Add the decorations of your choice - sprinkles, frosting, etc. Change up the colors / designs for different holidays.
