German Chocolate Caramel Bars

Ingredients:

1 1/2 Packages (11oz Size) Kraft Caramels
2/3 Cup Evaporated Milk, divided
1 Box German Chocolate Cake Mix
1 1/2 Sticks Unsalted Butter, melted
1/2 Cup Chopped Walnuts, optional
6 oz Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Add the caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk to a saucepan and heat over medium low heat. Stir occasionally and let heat until fully melted and combined. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. Combine the cake mix (just the powder mix, do not include the ingredients listed on the box), melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and nuts (optional) in a mixing bowl. Mix until combined, the dough will be slightly stiff.
  4. Press ½ of the dough in the bottom of the baking dish, spreading to the sides. Bake for 6 minutes.
  5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top.
  6. Drizzle the caramel over the top of the chocolate chips, covering as much of the surface as possible.
  7. Add the remaining dough on top of the caramel. You will need to use your hands or a spoon to add dollops across the top. Do not try to spread it.
  8. Bake for an additional 15-16 minutes. Let cool. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
  9. Store in an airtight container on the counter.
