Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (optional).
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place in a large mixing bowl. Add ½ cup brown sugar and ½ tsp cinnamon. Toss to coat the apples.
Slice the 3 Tbsp butter and place in the bottom of a cast iron skillet. You will want to use at least a 10-inch skillet but preferably 12-in skillet.
Pour the apple mixture over the butter.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine the remaining ingredients; 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/3 cup melted butter and 1 cup flour.
Use your fingers to crumble the mixture over the top of the apples.
Place the skillet on the prepared baking sheet (this step is optional but helps to catch any overflow that spills out of the skillet). Bake on the center rack for 45 min or until bubbling.
Serve warm with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Enjoy!
