If you grew up unwrapping a Kudos Bar from your lunchbox, this copycat version is about to unlock some serious nostalgia. These homemade bars capture that perfect balance of chewy, crunchy, and chocolatey goodness—made even better with simple pantry staples and no mystery ingredients. A hearty mix of rice cereal and old-fashioned oats forms the base, sweetened with brown sugar and corn syrup for that classic chewy texture. Creamy peanut butter and a touch of butter add richness, while a silky layer of melted semi-sweet chocolate (finished with colorful mini-M&Ms) takes these bars straight into throwback territory. Easy to make and impossible to resist, these Copycat Kudos Bars are a fun, homemade upgrade to the treat you remember and love.
The recipe can be found here.
Lightly grease the bottom of an 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish with cooking spray. Line with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang on the sides for easy removal later.
Add the cereal and oats to a large bowl, stir to combine, and set aside.
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, add the brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, peanut butter, and salt. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer and the sugar is fully dissolved, about 2–3 minutes.
Pour the warm mixture over the cereal and oats and stir until evenly coated. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and press firmly into an even layer, making sure it reaches all the way to the edges. Let sit at room temperature for about 1 hour to firm up or refrigerate for 15–20 minutes to speed up the process.
Using the parchment paper overhang, lift the bars out of the pan and transfer to a cutting board. Slice into 12 thin bars.
Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
Dip the bottom of each bar into the melted chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Transfer the remaining melted chocolate to a Ziploc bag, snip a small corner, and drizzle the chocolate over the tops of the bars.
Sprinkle mini-M&Ms over the top. Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for 10–15 minutes to speed up the process.
Serve and enjoy! Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
