Memorial Day is to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. Military. Many people celebrate Memorial Day in many different ways. Parades and picnics, barbeques with friends and family, going to the lake, Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer.
Nothing brings family and friends together like food so some delicious crowd food and a little menu planning is a must so you can advise your guests what they should bring.
Our tradition is to go to the lake for the holiday weekend and preparing as much of the food ahead of time as possible will make packing much more simple than hauling spices and cupboard staples you may not have at the cabin.
One of my favorite crowd-feeder recipes is a citrusy slow-roasted pork to make Cubano sandwiches. You can roast and shred the pork ahead of time and then heat the pork when you are ready to prepare the sandwiches.
Serve with a side of cole slaw or tossed salad.
Memorial Day has become almost synonymous with cookouts and barbecues and everyone loves a good cheeseburger. Our favorite is a Juicy Lucy oozing with some awesome Tillamook cheddar cheese and whatever you do, don’t forget the pickles!
Another condiment that has become a staple in our house is Heinz Sriracha Ketchup, pick some up and you won’t regret it!
Our Deli makes potato salad just like Grandma’s recipe and you can order in a gallon size handy bowl and if you’re running short of volunteers to bring food the potato salad and our Deli Calico Beans – ready to heat and serve taste just like homemade, you can order on line and pick up when you come to get the rest of your groceries.
If you’re looking for a little twist on a burger our Pesto Turkey Burger recipe is one of our favorites, the recipe is very simple using prepared pesto.
I don’t know about you but when we go to the lake Guacamole seems like an essential and it’s perfect for an appetizer, pick up a Taco dip in the Deli and some chips and watch them do everything but lick the bowl.
No need to bake those Brownies because our talented bakers have got you covered with our very own melt-in-your-mouth Brownies.
When the sun goes down and the bonfire is roaring you’re going to have to serve S’mores because it’s tradition. Have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!
