We recently tried a recipe for Bacon Apple Chicken Burgers with Dijon Sauce, and it was amazing!  The burgers are a little sweet from the apples and a little salty from the crispy bacon.  Add the Dijon sauce and you have a little slice of heaven!  The Dijon sauce is a combination of Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and maple syrup so it is sweet yet tangy, and I could not get enough of it.  All the flavors in this burger pair well and your taste buds will be happy 😊

The ingredient list looks long but these burgers really are easy to make.  And you will most likely have most of the ingredients at home already, so give them a try!

The recipe can be found here.

Start by preparing the Dijon sauce.  Add the Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and maple syrup to a mixing bowl and stir to combine.  Give it a taste and adjust the ingredients, as necessary.  For example. If you want a sweeter sauce, you might add a slash more of maple syrup.  Once the taste is to your liking, cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge until ready to use.

Next, cook the bacon according to package instructions.  Once cooked, drain and cool on a paper towel lined plate.  Once cool, finely chop 4 strips of bacon.  Keep the other strips of bacon intact.  The chopped bacon will get mixed into the burgers.

Add 1 Tbsp oil to a large skillet and heat over medium heat.  Add the onion, garlic, salt, and pepper.  Stir to combine and cook until the onions are translucent.

Slowly pour in the apple cider and stir to deglaze the pan and remove any bits stuck to the bottom.  Add the chopped bacon, apple, parsley, and sage.  Stir to combine and cook until the apples start to soften, about 3-4 minutes.

Remove the skillet from the heat and let the mixture cool.

Once cool, use a mixing bowl to combine the apple mixture with the ground chicken and breadcrumbs.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.  Shape the mixture into 6 patties and place on the baking sheet.  Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 10 minutes to help the burgers firm up.  This will help them keep their shape while cooking.

Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium heat.  Cook the burgers on each side for 7-8 minutes or until cooked through and an internal temperature of 165 degrees F is reached.

While the burgers finish cooking, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Place the hamburger buns, open faced, on the baking sheet.  Place one slice of cheese on one half of each bun.  Place in the oven for 2-3 minutes to toast the buns and melt the cheese.

Now it’s time to assemble the burgers.  Place the burger patty on top of the cheese.  Break a strip of bacon in half and set on top.  Add sliced red onion (or white or yellow onion if you prefer).  Spread the Dijon sauce on the top half of the bun and place on top of the burger.  Enjoy!

The recipe can be found here.

Yum!  My mouth is watering just thinking about these burgers.  The Dijon sauce is good enough to make again and use with other recipes or perhaps as a condiment on a sandwich.  You could add lettuce and tomato or even some guacamole as other toppings and really turn these into gourmet burgers that require 2 hands to eat, lol!  We made these for dinner one night and had the leftover burgers for lunch the next 2 days because they hold up well.

Happy Cooking!
