Italian Nachos are simple and easy to make!  They are loaded with crispy fried wonton wrappers, spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni, banana peppers, melty cheese, and marinara sauce for dipping.  They make a satisfying meal or can be served as an appetizer.  They are also great for game day, a potluck, family game night…anytime you want yummy snacks 😊 They are delicious and packed with tasty ingredients.

The recipe can be found here.

Start by heating a skillet over medium heat.  Add the spicy pork sausage or plant-based meat and cook until cooked through, about 8 minutes.  Remove from the heat and set aside.  I did use Impossible Meat when I made this recipe (the spicy ground package) however you can use any spicy ground meat of your choosing.  I had always wanted to try the spicy plant-based meat, and this gave me a good excuse to try it.  It was quite spicy and tasted just like ground pork.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.  Slice the wonton wrappers in half, diagonally.  You are basically slicing in half.  If you want to slice in ¼ that is also fine, you will just have smaller “chips”.

Once the oil is hot, add 6-8 wonton wrappers and fry to about 30 seconds, flipping halfway.  Remove to a paper towel lined plate to absorb the excess oil.  Continue until all wrappers have been fried.  One thing to point out is it can be hard to know when these are done.  They cook fast and don’t need to fry for long so it might take a batch or 2 to get it right.  You do not want to overcook them.  They will be a light color (like ivory), not brown, and will continue to cook as they cool so don’t worry if you pull them what appears to be too soon.  They will go in the oven in a later step.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.  Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or use an oven safe platter).

Assemble the nachos by lining the bottom of the baking sheet with the crispy wontons.  Top with the shredded cheese then layer on the pork sausage / plant-based meat.  Add the pepperoni and banana peppers.

You can build a second layer if you so choose or alternate layers to better combine the ingredients.  I used ½ package of wonton wrappers and it was plenty!  I used the entire package of plant-based meat but only about ½ of the pepperoni and about ½ jar of banana peppers (drained first).

Bake for 5-7 minutes or until the cheese has melted.  Serve warm with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.  Enjoy!

The recipe can be found here.

If you want to elevate these Italian Nachos, try adding some sliced black olives, pepperoncini, maybe a drizzle of alfredo sauce (or use it as a dipping sauce), parmesan cheese, etc.

Happy Cooking!
