Star Wars Day is upon us!  If you aren’t familiar, it’s an informal commemorative day observed annually on May 4th to celebrate all things Star Wars.  It’s not an official holiday by any means but any diehard fan is aware as observance of the day has spread quickly.  The title of this blog, May the Fourth Be with You, is a play on the popular catchphrase May the Force Be with You.  It you’ve watched the movies, you know what I’m referring to 😊 It’s a popular day for franchise fans and whether you plan on celebrating at home or in a galaxy far, far away, I hope you enjoy the recipes I’m going to share with you.  As expected, all are Star Wars themed.

Here is a list of the recipe:

Copycat Blue Milk and Copycat Green Milk are beverages popular to the films and can be found on most planets across the galaxy.  Blue Milk is also known as Bantha Milk as is produced by beasts in the outer rim territories, such as Tatooine, whereas the Green Milk is from the animal Thala-Siren, which resides on the planet Ahch-To.  It’s all very complicated, isn’t it?  😊 But us fans love to watch!

Andrew and I had the opportunity to try each flavor when we traveled to Batuu, a remote outpost on the Galaxy’s Edge, but you might know it as Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  If you’ve never been, we highly recommend it.  If you have been, I hope you tried both options.  Both are plant based, fruity, and refreshing (this is true for both the park version and the at-home version).  Blue Milk has more of a fruity, pineapple and coconut flavor.  Green Milk has more of a tropical, passion fruit flavor.  Both are alcohol free, but you could add a splash of vodka, rum, or perhaps tequila to make a fun cocktail version.  Let’s walk through how to make each one.

Copycat Blue Milk

Start by adding the pineapple chunks, pineapple juice, coconut milk, rice milk, and cream of coconut to a blender and blend until smooth.  Add 3-4 drops of white food coloring, cover, and turn the blender on.  Slowly add the blue food coloring, a few drops at a time, until the desired color is reached.  Turn off the blender and remove the cover.  Add the ice and blend until smooth (similar to a smoothie consistency).  Pour into glasses, serve, and enjoy!

The recipe makes about 4 cups and can be found here.

You can omit the white food coloring if you have a hard time locating it.  It does provide a lovely opaque color, very close to the beverage served at Hollywood Studios, but it will taste just as great without the white food coloring.

Copycat Green Milk

Start by adding the orange juice, passion fruit juice, coconut milk, rice milk, and corn syrup to a blender and blend until smooth.  Add 1-2 drops of green food coloring, cover, and turn the blender on.  Slowly add the yellow food coloring, a few drops at a time, until the desired color is reached.  Turn off the blender and remove the cover.  Add the ice and blend until smooth (similar to a smoothie consistency).  Pour into glasses, serve, and enjoy!

The recipe makes about 4 cups and can be found here.

The Stormtrooper Cheeseball is your basic white cheeseball recipe that is decorated to resemble a Stormtrooper.  If you aren’t familiar, Stormtroopers or Imperial Stormtroopers are elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire (the bad guys).  Their armor is all white with black accents, like the cheeseball I have created.  What I love about this recipe is you can prepare the cheeseball as is (and enjoy as is) or you can add decorations.  This is where the Stormtrooper embellishments come into play.  Stormtrooper isn’t your thing?  Create an R2-D2 or Porg Cheeseball, for example.  Just keep it on theme 😊

It’s made with cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and spices, and the recipe can be found here.

Start by preparing your ingredients.  Let the cream cheese soften, shred the white cheddar, measure out your spices, and drain and slice the black olives.

Add the cream cheese, softened butter, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and smoked paprika to the bowl of a stand mixer.  Mix until well combined.  You can do this by hand, but I think the stand mixer is faster and blend the ingredients better.

Remove the cheese to a large piece of plastic wrap and use the plastic wrap to form the cheese into a ball.  Once the cheese is in a ball shape, form the front and sides to resemble a Stormtrooper helmet.  Once you have your shape, place the cheeseball on a serving platter and throw away the plastic wrap.  You can do this with your hands as well and not use the plastic wrap.  It’s personal preference.  I found myself adjusting the shape once I had the cheeseball on a serving platter, so I didn’t really keep my hands all that clean!

Use sliced black olives to create the face and press the pieces into the cheeseball to hold in place.  I will admit that I tried to use seaweed for a cleaner look, but it was too brittle and just fell apart during assembly, so I relied entirely on black olives.  Do what works for you and use ingredients that work for you!

Add crackers around the base of the cheeseball on the serving platter.  Serve immediately and enjoy!

The recipe can be found here.

A few tips:

Make sure to use freshly grated cheese for the best flavor.  Double the recipe if serving a larger crowd.  Make ahead of time and store (wrapped) in the fridge until ready to serve.  Add the crackers right before serving, no need to refrigerate those.  Customize to your tastes – add fresh herbs, chopped olives, chopped bacon, jalapenos, etc.  You can skip the Star Wars themed décor and coat the cheeseball in chopped pecans, almonds, or walnuts for a little crunch.  Or perhaps roll the cheeseball in fresh herbs or crushed tortilla chips.  Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.

The Rebellion Pizza was fun to make and something I enjoyed creating.  It is completely customizable.  I purchased a 16” thin crust cheese pizza from the deli.  The pizzas are also available in 12” size and a hand tossed variety but I’m partial to thin crust.  You want to purchase the cheese pizza because you will add toppings of your choosing to create the Rebellion symbol (or any symbol of your choosing).  I think the Rebellion symbol is the easiest to create but you could try your hand at the Death Star 😊

I used pepperoni and think that is the easiest to work with, but you could add sausage, olives, peppers, etc. to create the pattern/shape of your choosing.  Simply preheat the oven, arrange your toppings, and bake according to package instructions.  Once cooked to perfection, slice, serve, and enjoy!

The Rebellion is also known as the Rebel Alliance, Alliance, or Resistance.  The crest is an iconic starbird and can be seen on helmets and uniforms of the rebels.  It’s comprised of 2 different emblems, pays tribute to Galen Marek, and is the symbol of hope.  I would continue but it might be too much background for today!

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Lightsabers are a wonderful snack, appetizer, or dessert.  I chose to create the lightsabers in the traditional colors in the franchise; red, green, blue, purple, and yellow.  There are 8 colors total, I only used 5, because these are the most known.

  • Red is for the Sith and other dark Jedi and represents power and aggression.
  • Blue is most synonymous of Jedi’s and represent righteousness and bravery.
  • Green is another color used by Jedi’s and represents harmony and safety.
  • Purple is one of the rarest and is synonymous with Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), showing an affinity with both the light and dark sides.
  • Yellow is singularly used by Jedi Temple guards that carry double bladed lightsabers.

There’s a lot to learn about Star Wars if you didn’t already pick up on that and aren’t a fan already 😊 Anyway, back to the Chocolate Covered Pretzel Lightsabers.  They became a little snack for us throughout the week, stored on the counter for easy snacking on the go.  They are simple to make, can be customized with different colors, and even changed up for holidays.  It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

The recipe can be found here.

Start by lining the counter with parchment paper or wax paper.  This will be where you place the pretzels dipped in chocolate to sit and harden.

Add 1 cup of the purple candy melts to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is melted and smooth.  Use a spoon to scoop the melted chocolate over the majority of one pretzel rod.  Lightly shake to remove excess chocolate and place on the parchment/wax paper.  Repeat until you have 4-5 purple pretzel rods.

Repeat this step with the yellow, red, green, and blue candy melts.  Leave a little space between each pretzel rod to allow the chocolate to set.  You should have enough chocolate for 4-5 of each color.

Once all the pretzel rods are dipped in chocolate and the chocolate has hardened, add the black candy melts to a microwave safe bowl and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.  Pour the melted chocolate in a squeeze bottle and drizzle over the end of each pretzel rod to create the lightsaber “handle”.  I use 1 cup of black candy melts.  You will have some leftover, but I would rather have too much than not enough!

Add 2 mini-M&Ms on top of the chocolate while it’s still warm.  Let the pretzel rods sit on the counter until the chocolate “handles” have hardened.  Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter.  Yum!

Super fun and festive!  These recipes are a great excuse to celebrate Star Wars Day, and for good reason.  The food is delicious, easy to whip up, and it brings us all together (well, really just the fans) on May 4th every year.  As The Mandalorian says, “this is the way”.

Happy Cooking and May the Fourth Be with You!
