Thank goodness for cocktails!  Having a cocktail can be like a little vacation or perhaps a way to relax after a hard day of work.  This time of year, it’s a way to say goodbye to winter and hello to spring as we look forward to all the snow melting, flowers starting to bloom, and warmer days.  I’ve been working on some fun cocktails and hope you will continue reading to join me on this experience 😊 I chose to garnish each cocktail with an edible flower.  I won’t talk about the process for me to obtain the edible flowers but know it was not easy during the winter when I was working on the recipes, and I am forever grateful for the Festival Foods employees that came to my rescue.  If you do happen to luck out and find edible flowers at your local grocery store, I highly recommend purchasing some.  They don’t taste like much but make … Continue reading

While on vacation over Thanksgiving I had THE BEST drink at one of our favorite restaurants and have been talking about it ever since (seriously).  I wanted to recreate the drink for a special occasion and thought New Year’s Eve would be the perfect time (although, I could drink this every day and not just on special occasions) … It’s called a Bailey’s Banana Colada and is the most amazing alcoholic shake-like beverage I’ve ever had.  Be warned – there isn’t a lot of booze in this drink, so the alcohol flavors won’t be overpowering.  It’s more like a chocolate banana shake.  But it’s delicious. Here’s how you make it: Ingredients 2 Ripe Bananas, broken into chunks 6 fl oz Banana Liqueur 6 lf oz Bailey’s Irish Cream 6 fl oz Coconut Cream, room temperature 4 Cups Ice   Directions Add the banana chunks and banana liqueur to a blender … Continue reading

I’ve been excited to write this post since I originally had the idea! Most of my posts so far have been about food but why stop there? I thought I could write about wine…delicious wine 🙂 For the winos and fitness enthusiasts out there, this is something you’ll want to try! It’s called FitVine and is considered “clean wine”. Don’t worry; I’ll explain what I mean by “clean wine” later. It started with 3 friends that wanted to create a wine that fit their very athletic and constant moving lifestyles…so they created FitVine. There are 5 kinds of FitVine available, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are very clean tasting and have a lot of flavor but still have the alcohol content you would expect from a glass of wine. They are low in sugar and low in carbs so you don’t feel as … Continue reading

I have a secret to share. Andrew and I both love fish but have never made it at home before. Can you believe it? Well, we were feeling ambitious last night and decided to try making grilled salmon. Turns out it was super simple to make! A friend recommended we use a grilling plank because it gives the fish great flavor so we bought Fire & Flavor Cedar Wood Grilling Planks. You can find these by the meat counter at Festival Foods. They are sold in a pack of 2 and you can use each one about 2-3 times before throwing away so you get a few meals out of them. They are perfect for cooking beef, pork, chicken, salmon, and other seafood so you aren’t limited to any one item. The tricky part is planning ahead. You need to soak the plank in water for about 1-2 hours before … Continue reading
