Summer is coming to an end, kids are starting school, cooler weather is on the way, and you are probably stuck with the never-ending questions about snack time at home 😊 I’ve always been a big fan of keeping “chow” on hand for an easy snack you can grab on the go but also a snack that will last a few days.  Chow is known by a few different names and it’s something I’m sure you’ve tried before.  I like to play around with different flavor combinations and create unique ways to change the recipe, so we don’t get sick of the same old thing week after week.

Today I want to share with you my recipes for 5 different Chow recipes:

Snickers Chow is loaded with rice cereal, chocolate, powdered sugar, chopped Snicker bars, and peanuts.  It’s the perfect combination of sweet and salty.

Frosted Animal Cookie Chow is loaded with rice cereal, white chocolate, powdered sugar, frosted animal cookies (those pink and white ones), and sprinkles.  It’s very sweet and colorful!

Butterfinger Chow is loaded with rice cereal, chocolate, peanut butter, powdered sugar, chopped Butterfinger bars, and mini-Reese’s candy.  It’s a wonderful combination of chocolate and peanut butter with a little crunch from the candy.

Twix Chow is loaded with rice cereal, chocolate, caramel, shortbread, powdered sugar, and chopped Twix bars.  It tastes just like a Twix bar…sweet, buttery, and crunchy.

Edible Cookie Dough Chow is loaded with rice cereal, chocolate, cookie butter, powdered sugar, and you guessed it…edible cookie dough.  This one is by far my favorite because of the cookie dough.  It’s delicious and very easy to make.  Plus, you can make cookie dough to eat as it without worrying about getting sick (due to no eggs).  Although, you might get a slight tummy ache if you eat it all in one sitting 😊

Let’s walk through how to make each one:

SNICKERS CHOW

Start by adding the cereal to a large mixing bowl.  Add the chocolate to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and stir to coat.

Add the powdered sugar and stir to coat.  Alternately, you could add the powdered sugar to a Ziploc bag, dup the coated cereal in the bag, seal, and shake to coat.

Add the chopped Snickers and peanuts and stir to combine.

Pour onto a baking sheet or piece of wax paper on the counter and spread in an even layer to allow the chocolate to set for about 15 minutes.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter.  The recipe can be found here.

FROSTED ANIMAL COOKIE CHOW

Start by adding about ¾ of the frosted animal cookies to a food processor and pulse until they resemble fine crumbs.  Pour the mixture into a bowl, add sprinkles, and stir to combine.

Add the cereal to a large mixing bowl.  Add the chocolate to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and stir to coat.

Add the crumb / sprinkle mixture and stir to coat.

Add the powdered sugar and stir to coat.  Alternately, you could add the powdered sugar to a Ziploc bag, dup the coated cereal in the bag, seal, and shake to coat.

Pour onto a baking sheet or piece of wax paper on the counter and spread in an even layer to allow the chocolate to set for about 15 minutes.  Add additional chopped frosted animal cookies to the mix.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter.  The recipe can be found here.

BUTTERFINGER CHOW

Start by dividing the cereal between 2 bowls; one will be for chocolate, and one will be for peanut butter.  Chop the Butterfinger bars and set aside.

Add the chocolate to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour the melted chocolate over ONE bowl of cereal and stir to coat.

Add ½ of the chopped Butterfingers and stir to combine.  Add ½ cup of powdered sugar and stir to combine.

Add the peanut butter to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour the melted peanut butter over the other bowl of cereal and stir to coat.

Add the remaining chopped Butterfingers and stir to combine.  Add ½ cup of powdered sugar and stir to combine.

Combine the 2 bowls of cereal into 1 bowl and stir to combine.  Add the mini-Reese’s candy and stir to combine.

Pour onto a baking sheet or piece of wax paper on the counter and spread in an even layer to allow the chocolate to set for about 15 minutes.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter.  The recipe can be found here.

TWIX CHOW

Start by adding the cereal to a large mixing bowl.  Chop the Twix bars and set aside.

Add the chocolate to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and stir to coat.

Add 15-20 caramel squares to a microwave safe bowl with 2 Tbsp heavy cream.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Drizzle over the chocolate coated cereal and stir to coat.

Add the shortbread cookies to a food processor and pulse until they resemble fine crumbs.

Add the shortbread crumbs and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl.  Stir to combine.

Add the mixture to the chocolate coated cereal and stir to coat.  Alternately, you could add the mixture to a Ziploc bag, dup the coated cereal in the bag, seal, and shake to coat.

Add the chopped Twix bars and stir to combine.

Pour onto a baking sheet or piece of wax paper on the counter and spread in an even layer.

Add 10 caramel squares to a microwave safe bowl with 1 Tbsp heavy cream.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Drizzle over the chocolate coated cereal.  Let sit for about 15 minutes to allow the chocolate and caramel to set.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container on the counter.  The recipe can be found here.

EDIBLE COOKIE DOUGH CHOW

Start by making the edible cookie dough.  Add the butter, light brown sugar, and sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer.  Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy.  Add the vanilla and mix until combined.

Add the flour and salt and mix until combined.

Add the milk and mix until combined.

Add the chocolate chips and mix until combined.  Place in the fridge until ready to use.

Next, make the Chow.  Add the cereal to a large mixing bowl.

Add the chocolate chips, cookie butter, vanilla, and unsalted butter to a microwave safe bowl.  Heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted.  Pour over the cereal and stir to coat.

Add the powdered sugar and stir to coat.  Alternately, you could add the powdered sugar to a Ziploc bag, dup the coated cereal in the bag, seal, and shake to coat.

Crumble the edible cookie dough into very small pieces and add to the coated cereal.  Stir to combine.

Pour onto a baking sheet or piece of wax paper on the counter and spread in an even layer to allow the chocolate to set for about 15 minutes.

Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge.  The recipe can be found here.

These are pretty simple recipes to make and are something the kids will not only love to eat but might even enjoy helping create, so whip up a batch or two for simple after-school snacks!  Or for the adults in the household, grab a handful or two after the kids go to bed and enjoy some late-night indulgences 😊

Happy Cooking!
