Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I’m feeling the love.  Our house is decorated with everything red and pink, I’ve picked out the perfect Valentine for my sweethearts (yes, I’m including the dog 😊), and we have a wonderful menu planned.  A lot of people like to go out to eat on Valentine’s Day and there is nothing wrong with that, but we usually opt to stay in and prepare a nice meal together.  It takes away from the rushed atmosphere you often feel at a restaurant on a busy day and allows you to really spend time together and do something fun together.  We both love to cook so it’s the perfect option for us!    The menu we prepared has a few new items, but everything is easy to make.  We’ll start with a Caprese Salad appetizer and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the … Continue reading

  It’s time to break out the recipes and figure out some food for the weekend and the weather is looking good for a little grilling and a Kansas City Strip Steak will do just fine. It’s time to begin planning your menu for Halloween festivities!  If you and the kids are heading out to trick or treat, start them off right with an nice, hot meal appropriate to the holiday – we’re talking Mummy Meatloaf. Easy to prepare, just slice our meatloaf and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven until an internal temperature of 160 degrees. While the meatloaf is cooking in the oven slice strips of your favorite white cheese that will melt easily. The cool and crisp fall weather has arrived much too soon but it’s perfect weather to begin cooking hearty soups and stews with fragrant herbs for your family meals or prepping some chili for a crowd to watch football. This is a classic Minnesota soup made with wild rice made especially easy if you use Rotisserie chicken from our deli, moist and full of flavor our Rotisserie chickens are useful as an ingredient in many recipes (think chicken quesadillas) as well as a main course. We call our recipe Minnesota Wild Rice Soup it has lovely rich flavor and one of my favorite fall recipes. Fire up that grill and give our new Honey Lime Chipotle Chicken Sandwich a try, this chicken would be spectacular on a salad as well. It has a lovely smoky flavor with a kick from the chipotle. We’ve all watched some great movies this year and on Sunday evening we shall see which films and actors are awarded Oscars. Why not step up your menu and celebrate the year in film with some awesome food. We looked through our recipes and products to find some delicious and festive food for you to watch the Oscars. Seafood always seems right for a special menu. One of our favorites is Lump Crab Cakes from our Chef department, we sell them frozen and all you have to do is brown each side in butter and place on a baking sheet in the oven – delicious. Nothing beats melty for a quick solution to dinner during these hectic weeks at the beginning of the school year. We decided to experiment with Gouda cheese for easy yet very tasty melty sandwiches. If you’re going to have a great sandwich you must use great bread, we chose a wonderful Boule made by Taste of Scandinavia for our sandwich bread. Simply toasting the bread didn’t seem like a good idea for a perfect melty sandwich so we settled on spreading the outside of the bread slices with Hellman’s Mayonnaise and cooked until a beautiful golden brown in a large non-stick frying pan or griddle. Our first melty sandwich effort was using Smoked Gouda on our golden crusted bread.
