A little culinary nod to St. Patrick’s Day and the festivities with a recipe that includes potatoes, sauerkraut and corned beef – just not so traditional, a Latke Reuben.  So simple to make, no need to make your own hash browns because Alexia Hash Browns (frozen foods)  are wonderful! We doubled the recipe because we were serving a larger group so we used two packages of the Alexia potatoes. First you will want to prepare the hashbrowns in two batches for both sides of the latke. Cook them following the directions on the back of the package in a skillet until slightly crisp as they will crisp up more later in the oven. For this recipe, you want to cook them on one side and then flip only once to cook the other side. Flip them as one piece or in sections, whichever you are most comfortable with. An easy way … Continue reading

Kick off the festivities for watching the Super Bowl with a Bloody Mary Bar! Guests can build their own Bloody Mary while you set out your spread of food. Set out a variety of spirits for them to choose from. We are pretty partial to Tito’s handmade Vodka but the team at On the Rocks Wine and Spirits has a wide variety of Vodka to choose from and lots of great micro brews for the chaser.   Prep for our bar began with putting the bacon in the oven on racks so we had nice flat bacon for the beverages. In addition to the bacon we sliced a Panino and rolled some Prosciutto. Meat sticks are always a great ingredient for a Bloody Mary. We chose our own smokehouse Ghost Pepper Sriracha Meat sticks. For the adventuresome and enlightened guests, a handcrafted Sriracha Bloody Mary mix from Vermont is on … Continue reading

Looking at our weather forecast this week, it seems like we need to serve up some comfort food. In our house that is usually soup or a hotdish! Our Hearty Italian Soup doesn’t take much time but it is rich in flavor, majority of the flavor comes from our fresh Italian sausage; made only at Festival Foods, we prefer the “hot” version of sausage for use in the soup, whatever you do don’t forget the mozzarella for the topping.  Serve the Hearty Italian soup by itself or with a small green salad and a baguette; either way it is an easy dinner to put on the table. If you are looking for a new family favorite Taco Soup may just be the one. Serving the Taco Soup with fresh cut Avocado and some fresh sliced Cilantro along with some crunchy chips makes this extra special. Here is a tasty meatless … Continue reading

Well, for the most part. The minute we completed this Bacon Jam we began to imagine all of the food we could pair with this sweet and savory condiment! First things first though we better show how we made the jam. Here is the recipe that yields approximately 16 ounces so you have plenty of Bacon Jam to experiment with. Very simple to make on the stovetop, so no need to whip out the slow-cooker. Our recipe calls for using our own Festival bacon, delightfully flavorful bacon. Start by cutting the bacon into one-inch pieces and toss into the fry pan to brown. When bacon is browned, drain all but approximately 1/4 of the bacon grease and add the chopped yellow onion, continue to cook until the onion is slightly translucent. Now the house will begin to smell VERY good. Now stir in brown sugar; cook until onions are … Continue reading
