Easy as Apple Pie!
We are well into apple season (aka fall) so it’s time for me to share my new apple recipes with you. I do love this time of year. The temperature is lowering, the leaves are changing color, and all the comfort foods start to replace the lighter summer fare. Which is where my apple recipes come in. They gear you up for those crisp fall days, offer easy to make options, and are a great way to use up those apples or apple cider you bought while visiting an orchard 😊 Here’s what I have for you: Apple Cider Whoopie Pies Apple Cider Churros with Caramel Dipping Sauce Apple & Walnut Salad with Creamy Cinnamon Dressing Baked Apple Pie Wontons APPLE CIDER WHOOPIE PIES Apple cider whoopie pies are a new fall favorite in our house. They are fluffy and yummy with great apple flavor. I think the cookies taste similar to apple cider donuts (if you’ve ever had those) … Continue reading

Apple Pickings
As colder weather sets in you are probably looking for something warm and filling to satisfy your cravings. It is apple season (so move over pumpkin spice) and I think apple is one of the best flavors of the season because it pairs well with many dishes. There are so many varieties of apples you are sure to find one that is your favorite and tastes great on a salad, or in a sandwich, or perhaps baked into a dessert. I like to create new recipes each fall that are themed around apples and have a few to share with you today: Slow Cooker Apple Cider Chicken & Apple Melts with Honey Mustard Gouda, Apple & Bacon Naan Flatbread Caramel Apple Cupcakes Slow Cooker Apple Cider is completely homemade. The base is water, you add chopped fruit and some mulling spices, turn on the slow cooker, and forget it overnight. Your house will … Continue reading

Apple Harvest
We are in the midst of apple season in MN has some of the best orchards around! Prime apple picking is mid-to-late August through late October and makes for a wonderful family tradition! Our family went to a local apple orchard recently and it was a blast. We enjoyed some delicious apple treats, took a nice walk through the orchards, picked out a pumpkin to bring home, and just had an all-around good day. Most people have a favorite kind of apple but with so many varieties to choose from, I think it’s hard to pick. And different kinds work for different recipes, so you have the option to sample different flavors while you cook and try out new recipes. Not everyone has time to spend at an apple orchard or doesn’t have any locations close to home. In that case, you probably swing by your local grocery store to … Continue reading

State Fair Home Edition
The Minnesota State Fair is in full swing. Do you plan on going? I know a lot of people that plan on attending the fair and a lot of people that don’t, for various reasons. I sure love the fair and missed not being able to attend last year. Unfortunately, this year, it’s also not in the cards for me. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy some delicious fair food at home, and you can do the same! First off, I want to share with you a link to a blog I wrote last year. The blog is called Your Favorite MN State Fair Food…at Home, because that’s what the blog is about – creating and enjoying all the classic state fair foods in the comfort of your own home. I wrote this blog because the fair was cancelled last year and wanted to give everyone the option of … Continue reading

Apple Cider Chicken & Apples
Apple Cider Chicken & Apples is the ultimate fall dish! Think juicy chicken, tender apple slices, the crisp taste of apple cider……my mouth is watering just thinking about it 🙂 Your whole kitchen will smell like fall with this dish. It’s a healthy and simple fall meal. The recipe can be found here. Start by heating a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and onions and cook until soft and translucent. Then add the chicken, season with salt and pepper, and cook until the chicken is about 80% done. You only want to cook the chicken about 80% of the way because it will continue to cook while you prepare the rest of the dish. Make sure to stir frequently so all sides of the chicken heat evenly. Add garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute. In a small bowl, combine the apple cider and … Continue reading

Fall Themed Breakfast Showdown
It’s the time of year for all the pumpkin flavored lattes, pancakes, cookies, pasta, etc. starts popping up. If you can eat it, I’m sure someone has tried adding pumpkin flavoring to it! It’s a craze that I’m more than happy to participate in 🙂 But, another fall favorite I don’t think gets enough credit is apple cider. I thought it would be fun to do a taste test of pumpkin vs apple cider with breakfast foods to see which the fan favorite is. I made the same two items with both flavors. Apple Cider French Toast Apple Cider Waffles Pumpkin French Toast Pumpkin Waffles All recipes are made the traditional way, except you either add pumpkin or apple cider, or substitute it for another ingredient. I chose to make french toast sticks and sliced the bread into 3 pieces, but you can leave the bread whole if you prefer. I also used a … Continue reading
