Labor Day Grilling It’s time to fire up the grill for your Labor Day celebration!  I plan to spend the day outside enjoying the weather with family and friends.  Whatever you plan to do, I hope you enjoy some delicious food and get good use of your grill before cooler weather hits.  It’s the perfect day for grilling and a picnic. I have a handful of grilling ideas and side dish suggestions for you to try to have the perfect spread.  Let’s start with the meat! Brats – there are so many brat varieties available, you are sure to find something for everyone on your guest list.  My favorite is the Chicken Fajita Brat found at the Chef’s Counter of your local Festival Foods.  Other varieties available include Philly Cheese Chicken, Octoberfest, Jalapeno Cheddar, Wild Rice, and more!  Don’t forget the fresh brat buns from the bakery! Burgers – probably the most popular food to grill.  Plus, burgers … Continue reading

I’ve been excited to write this post since I originally had the idea! Most of my posts so far have been about food but why stop there? I thought I could write about wine…delicious wine 🙂 For the winos and fitness enthusiasts out there, this is something you’ll want to try! It’s called FitVine and is considered “clean wine”. Don’t worry; I’ll explain what I mean by “clean wine” later. It started with 3 friends that wanted to create a wine that fit their very athletic and constant moving lifestyles…so they created FitVine. There are 5 kinds of FitVine available, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are very clean tasting and have a lot of flavor but still have the alcohol content you would expect from a glass of wine. They are low in sugar and low in carbs so you don’t feel as … Continue reading

Every time I shop at Festival Foods I have to checkout the Meat Department because they always have a large assortment of prepackaged meal options. You can find bratwurst, burger patties, marinated chicken, pork chops, and much more. One of my favorite things to buy is Crusted Chicken Breasts. They are available in a variety of flavors and are easy to make for dinner because all you have to do is bake them. I bought 2 different flavors during my last trip to the store, Parmesan Crusted Chicken and Tortilla with Cheese Crusted Chicken. I thought it would be fun to do a taste test to see which one we liked better. The first night we had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast with a Caesar salad and corn bread (from the Festival Foods Bakery). To make the chicken I preheated the oven to 375 degrees. Then placed both chicken breasts … Continue reading

We’ve all watched some great movies this year and on Sunday evening we shall see which films and actors are awarded Oscars. Why not step up your menu and celebrate the year in film with some awesome food. We looked through our recipes and products to find some delicious and festive food for you to watch the Oscars. Seafood always seems right for a special menu. One of our favorites is Lump Crab Cakes from our Chef department, we sell them frozen and all you have to do is brown each side in butter and place on a baking sheet in the oven – delicious. Serve them with this simple recipe for Seafood Mustard Sauce as an appetizer course or main course. Large shrimp served with Festival’s fresh cocktail sauce is a wonderful appetizer treat and so easy to serve!   This Chilled Shrimp Salad recipe is a colorful salad course with … Continue reading

Is there anyone who isn’t suffering from Cabin Fever after these long months of snow & cold? Hopefully the weather forecast is correct for the weekend – 70+ degrees by Sunday! The arrival of spring calls for a celebration with some great food and beverage, perhaps even a bonfire with s’mores! If your schedule is packed, perhaps you should have your groceries delivered! One thing for certain is that the grill is coming out this weekend. A Rib Eye Steak Topped with Blue Cheese Butter seems like a perfect way to kick off the grilling season.   No gathering should ever be without Guacamole (at least in our opinion) and we prefer the chunky kind. You can toss together at the last minute before your guests arrive and it won’t be long before the bowl is empty – always a hit!   A Caprese salad with vine-on tomatoes and fresh basil will … Continue reading

We had to show Dad the love on Father’s Day so that means cooking a favorite meal and watching a movie together. Planning our Father’s Day meal was easy, we chose one of his favorites  – Kung Pao Chicken with Noodles. We love this recipe and usually make it with Smart Chicken®. These products are raised without animal byproducts, antibiotics, or hormones, and are processed using purified cold air instead of adding a non-potable water as most other chicken products are processed. One note about this recipe, a single batch never works around our house, we love the leftovers! We try to always have the pantry ingredients available because this meal can be prepped reasonably fast when the mood strikes. Here is the recipe link. Marinating the chicken with the corn starch and sesame oil coats the chicken and helps adhere the sauce to the chicken.   We are always looking for … Continue reading

One item always on our shopping list at this time of year is Asparagus, we had it for dinner three times last week! Steaming and roasting the asparagus are my favorite methods to cook the Asparagus. Roasting is so simple just wash and trim the Asparagus toss to coat with olive oil and a tiny squeeze of lemon and sprinkle of kosher salt. Lay flat on a baking sheet and bake in a 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. Another simply delicious recipe is Grilled Asparagus Salad with Fried Eggs. Asparagus would be a wonderful side dish to many of our recipes included in our menu for the week. We thought we should highlight some foods around the store that you may not have tried yet: Piacci Fior‑di‑Latte, or “flower of milk,” offers delicate flavor, reminiscent of handmade fresh Italian Mozzarella. Perfect to toss with tomatoes and fresh basil for … Continue reading

You don’t have to go to the French Quarter of New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras. Have your own celebration enjoying  creole or cajun cuisine and other food traditions of Mardi Gras. We have King Cakes and Paczkis on Monday and Fat Tuesday and some festive cupcakes to celebrate the event. One staple in our family cupboard has always been Zatarain’s Dirty Rice mix, all you have to do is add water and browned ground beef, a one pot meal to have any time of year. Po’ boys are another Louisiana food that we enjoy. Po’boys are a sandwich that consists of meat or seafood (usually fried) served on a baguette. One of our favorite po’ boy recipes is made with ground pork from a recipe I found years ago in Food and Wine magazine Spicy Pork Po’Boys is included in our Menu this week. How about trying Jambalaya with … Continue reading
